So What is a Postpartum Doula

Amanda Gaudet, YegDoula

Postpartum doulas are becoming more common as women are recognizing the importance for support, guidance and rest during this important life transition.

Many families will often hesitate to seek support when their infant has reached 6 weeks old and some postpartum doulas will only take families with infants up until this point. Not me. I recognize that postpartum looks different for everyone and that for some families, their need for support starts then.

Nothing magical happens at that 6 week mark except your care giver has given you the all clear, sleep deprivation has really sunk in, the freezer meals are gone, and the visitors have stopped coming.

As a postpartum doula, I don’t tell you when you don’t need help any more. That’s entirely up to you and whatever is going on in your life. I come and support you and your family.

My services include, but isn’t limited to:

  • Newborn care
  • Sibling care
  • Light housework
  • Meal prep
  • Errands
  • Cooking
  • Infant Feeding Support (breast, bottle)
  • Postpartum recovery care/support
  • Non-judgemental Emotional, Physical, Educational Support
  • Day-time care sessions
  • Evening care sessions
  • Overnight care sessions

Hiring a Postpartum Doula

I offer complimentary one-on-one consultations to families in Edmonton & area. Most of the time families have already welcomed their new baby, so I offer to meet in the comfort of their home.

My goal is to support you in whatever brings the most peace to your home and family. Every time I arrive at your home I’ll ask how you’re doing and your goals/expectations for the day.

Many of us invest in the best of the best for our new baby. We buy the expensive baby monitors, top of the line car seats, swaddle blankets, swings, fancy bottles and soothers, etc. Mothers often forget that it’s ok to invest in themselves. I am an Edmonton postpartum doula and want to support you. You are important and you are worth it.
